Regional Coordinator of Discipleship

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

In collaboration and under the direction of the participating pastors and clergy of Bridgeport, the Regional Coordinator of Discipleship is responsible for forming parish leaders, parents, and young adults by providing opportunities for them to grow in their personal relationship with the Lord, forming small communities of faith to accompany them in their discipleship and giving them the necessary skills to evangelize through truth, beauty, and goodness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates opportunities for parish leaders, parents and young adults to experience and promote truth, beauty and goodness and enhance their ability to evangelize the parish faithful.
  • Establishes and coordinates programs to offer parish young adults with leadership training, specifically focused on virtue formation. Additionally, newly formed youth leaders will be given the opportunity to mentor their peers in leadership training.
  • Creates programs for parish leaders and parents to foster marital accompaniment and parental discipleship, with the objective to strengthen the bond of marriage, foster family prayer, and teach parents to evangelize their children.
  • Creates, implements, and sustains opportunities for leadership formation via multiple learning and experience styles, such as online offerings, self-paced learning, in-person events, small group settings, classroom environments, and retreats.
  • Provides a visionary approach with multiple opportunities for parish leaders, parents, and young adults to encounter the Lord Jesus through engagement with truth, beauty and goodness, in accordance with the vision articulated by the One.
  • Utilizing strong interpersonal skills and change management techniques, brings parish participants along to ensure continuing local engagement and participation.
  • Working with participating pastors, forms local parish leadership teams to assist in the work of forming parish leaders, parents, and young adults.
  • Establishes parent-specific formation opportunities to equip parents in sharing and passing on the faith.
  • Given the large Hispanic population in the region, the individual will communicate in both English and Spanish, including reading, writing and with personal interactions. Additionally, the individual will need to create programs with an understanding of different Hispanic cultures to ensure program success.
  • Provides parent faith formation, outreach, and service opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters’ degree in pastoral studies/theology/religious education/or related, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in pastoral ministry in a Catholic parish or institution.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English with in-depth knowledge of Hispanic culture and diversity.
  • Demonstrated vision and ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a disciple-making Catholic ministry.
  • Practicing Catholic able to participate in the sacraments of the Church.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and conflict management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages, diverse communities, and teams of volunteers.
  • Microsoft Office/Suite proficient (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio) and experience utilizing project management software.
  • Client-facing project and budgeting experience.
  • Engaging teacher/presenter.
  • Solid problem solving and time management skills.
  • Able to multitask efficiently and effectively.
  • Great interpersonal skills, with strong decision-making, leadership and change management capabilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and desire to exceed client expectations.
