Regional Coordinator of Hispanic Ministry

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIY

In collaboration and under the direction of the participating pastors and clergy in Danbury, the Regional Coordinator of Hispanic Ministry (RCHM) facilitates ministry to the Hispanic faithful across various ages among the participating parishes, assisting in the implementation of the vision of the One.

More specifically, the RCHM will work with participating pastors, regional parish lay staff and Catholic school principals to coordinate and develop programs in service to the faithful whose primary language is Spanish. Additionally, the RCHM will coordinate associated programs including publicizing and managing spiritual, formational, social and cultural events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively ministers to the Hispanic faithful with an understanding of Hispanic cultures and needs.
  • Working with participating pastors and regional parish lay staff, such as Directors of Religious Education, Liturgy, Youth Ministry and others, develops and implements Hispanic-focused ministries and programs across all ages, including but not limited to Sacramental preparation, youth ministry, prayer groups, family ministry, RCIA and Marriage Preparation.
  • Develops communications and publicizing materials and markets the programs and events appropriately.
  • Attends all Hispanic ministry events and participates as appropriate.
  • Liaison with pastors and pastoral teams by being available for training and guidance to them on the unique requirements for effective Hispanic Ministry.
  • Serve as a resource person and consultant for regional parishes and other groups to foster inclusion of Hispanics into the life of the church, which celebrates diversity and understands ways to meet the needs of Hispanics including preparation of baptism, RCIA, marriage, Eucharistic celebrations, Quinceaneras, posadas, prison ministry, visitation of the sick, bereavement and hospitality.
  • Provides resource materials that would promote ministry to Hispanics and newly arrived immigrants in the different aspects and activities of parish life.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree in Theology, Education, Religious Studies, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Five to seven years’ related Hispanic pastoral ministry experience;
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church with deep knowledge of the Catholic faith, the Catholic Catechism and associated traditions
  • Understanding of Catholic Church ethics, traditions, procedures and organizational structures, and familiarity with Church documents on peace and justice issues.
  • Excellent bi-lingual (Spanish and English) written, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision completing work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Diocese.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Hispanic cultures.
  • Exhibits a professional manner in all dealings with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships. Relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
  • Microsoft Office/Suite proficient (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio) and experience utilizing project management software
  • Solid problem solving and time management skills
